Capri Verdemare

The project

Capri Verdemare is born from the encounter between a bronze of mine and the sea of Capri. A sculpture from the Mythos and Protos series meets these waters and is marked by them, returning bearing their colour.

It is a piece of archaeology of the future kept inside a single object: a relic that has never existed, and that yet now exists; an imaginary fragment, real in its matter, that carries within it the deep identity of this island.

The Capri Verdemare Patina

From this encounter a new colour for bronze is born: the Capri Verdemare Patina. A shade of green and blue that does not come from the studio but from the meeting with these waters. A signature patina, invented together by the artist and by the sea of Capri.

It exists only here, and only this one time.

Before the sea

The sculpture was cast in bronze at Fonderia Artistica Versiliese in Pietrasanta, the city of foundries where I live and work. These images show the work as it left the casting: bright, polished bronze — the sculpture as it was before the sea.

In the story the work carries within itself, this is its first life. A shining bronze that ends up underwater and, only after a long time, re-emerges wearing the green of these waters. The patina is the time of that imaginary sea, made visible.

For this reason Capri Verdemare lives in two states, embodying both moments of its story: the polished bronze — before the sea — and the bronze with the Capri Verdemare Patina — after.
